Liz Clark, 34, a self-described “female pirate,” has been sailing the world since she quit her job as a bartender in San Diego, California, in 2006. Clark was offered a Cal 40 sailboat on the condition that she would document her adventures around the world. In 2013, “Captain Lizzy” welcomed a 6-month-old kitten she rescued on board.
“She’s adapted to being surrounded by water,” Clark said of her feline companion on Buzzfeed. The cat, named Amelia (also affectionately known as Tropicat), enjoys boat fishing, beach walks and hiking. “She has to constantly step out of her feline comfort zone,” Clark adds. “But I think she understands now that I’m going to keep her safe and in the end she’s going to have a good time. She makes the swell [the yacht] It feels more like a home. “
So far, Clark has traveled along the west coast of Mexico and Central America, as well as the South Pacific.
