He was so frightened of humans that he barely moved. “There was a strong smell of ammonia. He couldn’t move from where he was. It was overwhelming,” Rowles recounted. Despite his fear, Duke showed a spark of trust when he cautiously approached Rowles and kissed his hand—a poignant gesture that marked the beginning of his long road to recovery.
Due to the rescue shelter being full, Rowles decided to take Duke home with him, providing a safe and loving environment filled with other animals.
