A Rocky Beginning
Dime’s early life was far from ideal. He spent his first three months living in a junkyard in Atlanta, Georgia, with other dogs. A chance encounter led him to a kind woman who provided temporary refuge before he found his forever home with Graham and Skip Fellers in Asheville, North Carolina.
A Gentle Giant Finds His Home
Graham and Skip welcomed Dime into their mountain home, providing him with the space and love he had never experienced before. Despite his large size, Dime was a gentle and affectionate companion. He formed a strong bond with his new family, especially with Graham. In 2020, they welcomed another dog, Pork Roll, an American Bully, who became Dime’s playful and energetic brother.
A Heartbreaking Diagnosis
Years later, the Fellers family noticed changes in Dime’s mobility. A vet visit revealed a devastating diagnosis: degenerative myelopathy, a progressive spinal cord disease. This condition gradually weakened Dime’s hind legs, impacting his ability to walk.
Unwavering Love and Support
Despite the challenges posed by Dime’s condition, Graham and Skip remained steadfast in their love and support. They adapted to his changing needs, providing him with a custom-made harness and a wheelchair. Even Pork Roll joined in, sometimes playfully tugging Dime’s wheelchair to assist him on walks. Dime’s spirit remained strong, and he continued to enjoy life with his family. They made sure he was included in all their activities, from walks and cuddles to trips and adventures. Dime’s story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the unbreakable bond between humans and their canine companions.
