A Trip to Vegas: Unexpected Baggage Trouble
One Texas couple, eager to embark on a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, meticulously packed all the necessary items for their vacation. Confident that they had everything they needed, they hurried to the Lubbock airport, ready to board their plane and begin their long-awaited getaway.
Upon arrival at the airport, they anticipated a routine and swift baggage check, followed by immediate boarding.
However, they could never have imagined that one of their bags would be flagged as being six pounds overweight.
The Stowaway Revealed: A Sneaky Chihuahua
Just as Jared and Kristi Owens were about to step onto the plane, the airport staff informed them that one of their bags exceeded the weight limit and had to be checked.
Both Jared and Kristi were taken aback and quite surprised by this news, but they managed to maintain their composure and comply with the request. However, the real shock came moments later when they opened the bag and noticed movement inside.
That’s when they discovered a smiling face peering out of Jared’s boot – it was their senior Chihuahua, who had somehow managed to sneak into the bag without their knowledge during the packing process. The discovery was a complete surprise for both of them, especially for Jared.
“You know it’s going to be an epic trip to Vegas when you get to the airport to check your bags….6lbs overweight, and out pops a chihuahua from your boot!! Unreal!” Jared exclaimed in his Facebook post, capturing the surreal moment.
While the situation was initially surprising, upon reflection, they realized that this behavior was actually quite typical of their Chihuahua, Icky.
“We were dumbfounded and flat shocked and embarrassed, to be honest. She loves to burrow in our laundry baskets, closet, blankets, wherever she can get nice, warm and comfy, and on that day, I guess she chose our suitcase we had left open with clothes in it for hours,” Jared explained to FOX 29 News Philadelphia, shedding light on Icky’s burrowing tendencies.
Fortunately, one of the airport employees didn’t view the situation as shameful at all, but rather found it amusing and even exciting.
An Angelic Intervention: The Employee’s Kind Gesture
With their plane about to depart for Las Vegas, Jared and Kristi Owens found themselves stranded at the airport, unsure of what to do. They hadn’t planned on bringing their senior Chihuahua along, but they also didn’t have enough time to transport her back home.
However, one of the Southwest Airlines employees, Cathy, was charmed by the unexpected turn of events and generously offered to look after Icky for as long as needed. Jared and Kristi were overjoyed by her kindness!
“Shout out to Cathy with #southwestairlines for her awesome customer service!! She offered to watch Icky until we got back!! Let’s go!!” Jared expressed his gratitude in his post.
In the limited time they had before their flight, Jared managed to contact family friends who promptly headed to the airport to pick up Icky and bring her back home.
A Fond Farewell: Off to Vegas, Eventually
Although slightly irritated by their furry friend’s mischievous behavior, Jared and Kristi bid a warm farewell to Icky and the accommodating airport employee who was caring for her, and finally set off on their journey to Las Vegas.
They could still feel a sense of relief and satisfaction despite the initial chaos, realizing that the situation could have been much worse. If Icky had remained undetected in the bag throughout the flight, they certainly wouldn’t have been greeted by her smiling face upon opening it at their destination.
