This dog, later named Glowup, hopelessly surrendered to the kind humans who immediately initiated her arduous recovery process. Animal control in Petersburg, Virginia, was the first to intervene, picking up Glowup and swiftly transferring her to the Richmond Animal League (RAL), an organization that accepted her without hesitation. Upon her arrival at the facility, Glowup was in an extremely critical condition. Her skin was severely inflamed and thickened due to a widespread case of demodectic mange, a parasitic skin disease. This severe skin condition, coupled with her hair loss, was so pervasive that the staff initially believed her breed was a Shar Pei, known for their wrinkled skin. “When this sweet girl arrived, her skin suffered from a nasty case of Demodex. She was missing hair, was covered in scabs, and her skin was thickened,” RAL vividly described on Facebook, painting a clear picture of her initial state.

Within just a few weeks, Glowup was well on her way to a full recovery. Her painful skin wounds began to heal, her fur started to regrow, and after a prolonged period of suffering, she was finally on safe and steady ground.
