It may seem unthinkable to the majority of pet parents, but every year thousands of people a/b/a/n/d/o/n their pets when they go on vacation.
According to the French animal charity 30 Millions dโAmis Foundation (30 Million Friends), 60,000 dogs and cats are โthrown outโ by families going on holiday each year.
In an effort to curb such heartless abandonment, the charity launched a campaign to raise awareness and prevent people from giving up their pets.
Rather than make a video of a sad tale of a dog being left behind or given up to a shelter, the charity opted to depict the close relationship between a little girl and her dog.
Renowned French director Xavier Giannolli does a beautiful job of following the girl and her dog through the important moments of their lives in the 2-minute silent movie.
We see the first time they meet each other, them sharing birthdays and sick days, celebrating births and life changes.
The touching film tugs on all the heartstrings of what it means to have a dog and ends with a heartfelt message โWhen a dog abandons his master it is not to go on holidayโ.
A powerful message to a powerful video. Watch it for yourself in the video below.
