Baloo is the kind of dog you love right off the bat. You don’t even need time to get to know him better – he’s an instant lovebug, radiating warmth and affection from the moment you meet him.
Sadly, his previous owners did not share this sentiment. Baloo was cruelly abandoned in the parking garage of an apartment complex. He was tied up and left all alone for three long days until a compassionate resident finally spotted him.
Just as he was about to embark on a new chapter of his life in a foster home, his foster mom welcomed him with open arms and a loving heart. Little did she know that Baloo harbored a secret – and it was a significant one.
A Shocking Revelation: Baloo’s Medical Condition

Baloo seemed to understand he was being rescued the instant his rescuer spoke to him with kindness. He didn’t hesitate; he went straight into her arms, seeking comfort and cuddles, and then happily left the parking garage behind.
Baloo’s life was about to undergo a complete transformation. He was soon welcomed into a loving foster home by Callan, a Michigan postdoc fellow, and he couldn’t have been happier to finally have a safe and warm place to call his own.
The two spent a wonderful first month together, getting to know each other and forming a deep bond. They played, cuddled, went on enjoyable walks, and cherished their time together.
Then came the unexpected and alarming revelation.
One day, Baloo experienced a seizure, a frightening event that took Callan completely by surprise. It was the first time she had ever witnessed such a situation, and seeing Baloo immobile and helpless was truly heartbreaking for her.
However, she remained steadfastly by his side, providing comfort and support until the seizure subsided – and eventually, Baloo recovered.
Over the following months, Baloo continued to experience regular seizures. However, Callan became more adept at anticipating them. When she sensed an episode was imminent, she would always sit right next to him, ensuring his safety and preventing him from injuring himself. Although each seizure was distressing, Callan was grateful that she could be there to support her beloved dog.
A Deep Connection: Baloo, the Soul Dog
Baloo is a truly resilient and remarkable boy. He is currently receiving medication to manage his seizures, and his condition has significantly improved. Despite still experiencing occasional episodes, both he and Callan refuse to let this obstacle hinder them from living life to the fullest.
Callan and Baloo share a beautiful and profound bond. Baloo has become Callan’s “soul dog,” not only providing her with unwavering companionship but also helping her maintain a healthy work-life balance and stay accountable for her time. Needless to say, Baloo is a successful “foster fail,” having permanently stolen Callan’s heart!
“My work is a lot sometimes, and he holds me accountable. He makes sure I come home at a reasonable time, I’m not staying too late at work. It’s just nice to see that he’s super excited to see me,” Callan shared with GeoBeats Animals, highlighting the positive impact Baloo has had on her life.
He is an absolute sweetheart, genuinely happy to have his mom in his life. Baloo adores peanut butter and chicken, playtime in the park, meeting new people (and animals), and is an absolute cuddle bug, always seeking affection.
However, one of his all-time favorite activities remains taking cozy naps near his beloved mama, feeling safe and secure in her presence.
